The Christ Redeemer statue towers atop the Corcovado mountain overlooking Rio de Janeiro. The statue is 125 feet (38 m) tall, including the pedestal. The pedestal contains a chapel large enough for 150 worshippers. The Christ Redeemer statue took five years to construct and was inaugurated on October 12, 1931.

  This statue of Jesus stands some 38 meters tall, atop the Corcovado mountain overlooking Rio de Janeiro. Designed by Brazilian Heitor da Silva Costa and created by French sculptor Paul Landowski, it is one of the world’s best-known monuments. A century passes and the mountain is re-baptized to Corcovado, a name derived from its form, which resembles a hump or hunchback.

Should you decide to leave the train at Paineira station you can take a walk in Tijuca National Park, return and re-board with the same ticket. The train accesses at Rua Cosme Velho 513.
